Clean Vehicles Rebate

The Clean Vehicle Rebate Project (CVRP) encourages technologies and innovations that provide immediate air pollution emission reductions and that stimulate development and deployment of sustainable transportation. The CVRP, funded by the California Environmental Protection Agency’s Air Resources Board (ARB) and administered statewide by our San Diego Center Location Partner, Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE), provides rebates of up to $5,000 for the purchase or lease of zero-emission and plug-in hybrid light-duty vehicles.

A total of $63.7 million was appropriated for FY 2009-2013 to promote the production and use of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs), including electric, plug-in hybrid electric and fuel cell vehicles. Rebates are available for individuals, nonprofits, government entities and business owners.

The CSE team also

  • Facilitates outreach events throughout the state that explain the benefits of clean vehicles and provide information about the rebate project
  • Conducts ongoing surveys of CVRP recipients to determine driving and charging habits of plug-in electric (PEV) owners
  • Provides PEV adoption data and develops tools to provide key information to industry stakeholders
